Report from the Office of General Affair

With a help of
Dr. Keisuke Ueda, we were able to use the Rikkyo University
campus as the venue. In addition, the meeting took place
smoothly due to the support of the staff. |

The presentation
abstract book of the 64th meeting of the Biogeographical
Society of Japan was issued in March 2009. |

As of today, the
board of councilors consists of 20 members. |

Society Awards
We received recommendations from the councilors. The staff
considered them and reached conclusions and the board of
councilors has given the approval. Award winner: Shin Kubota
(Kyoto University Field Science Education and Research Center)
“Life History including Ontogeny, distribution, and ecology
of Hydrozoans (Cnidaria).
The award winner has submitted 24 original papers (15 as
the first author) to the Society since 2003. Not only his
main study subject of the Cnidaria, Hydrozoans taxonomy
but also such wide variety of subjects as distribution,
ecology, physiology and ontogeny have been investigated
and reported. Especially the several reports on the rejuvenation
and immortality of scarlet medusa are considered to be a
key to the secret of life; and therefore, Dr. Kubota deserves
to receive the award. |
